ENMORE School’s girls’ table tennis team is celebrating after being crowned national champions.

The girls travelled to Hinckley in Leicestershire to compete against other schools from all over the country in the English Schools National Championships.

Their opener against Bradley Primary School from Lancashire ended in a 6-2 win before romping to successive 8-0 victories over Askam-in-Furness of Cumbria and Chalfont St Peter from Buckinghamshire.

Four mascots were knitted for the girls which they ended up calling ‘chicken ducks’ and the young players religiously placed them on the umpires’ table for each match.

Finally it was confirmed that they had won the tournament outright, with Juste and Hannah winning five matches, and Charlotte and Chloe winning six.

There was an elaborate presentation ceremony in which Hannah was handed the trophy by the general secretary of the competition, Richard Hudson.
