HARD-WORKING young people revamped the garden at a YMCA base in Bridgwater thanks to a 12-week development programme.

The 15-strong group took just two weeks to revitalise the garden at Thorncombe House as part of a Prince's Trust programme delivered by Bridgwater College.

Their duties included raising money for new materials, designing a new space for its residents, painting fences, making raised flower beds, creating a patio and seating area, and producing a vegetable patch.

The aim of the programme was to help build their confidence, team work and employability skills to help get them back into work, education or training.

Prince's Trust team leader Danielle Day said: “The team had to work hard raising the funds to achieve the finance to support the refurbishment work.

“They took part in various activities including bag packing at Morrisons and organising a raffle, which local businesses donated prizes for.”

A spokesman for Bridgwater YMCA said: “We are really pleased with the work carried out. They have transformed the garden.

“Residents at the YMCA are using the area more to socialise, and the vegetable patch is a great new feature of the garden, which will be maintained by our residents.”
