PROTESTORS from Sedgemoor joined thousands who marched through central London on Saturday demonstrating against Government cutbacks.

Dozens of coaches left from Taunton carrying hundreds of people from all over Somerset taking part in the rally organised by the Trades Union Congress (TUC).

Cllr Kathy Pearce, leader of the Sedgemoor District Labour Group, was one of those taking part in the march, which was marred by scuffles between police and a small group of separate activists.

Cllr Pearce said she and fellow protestors were proud to demonstrate their deep concerns and contempt at the “devastating destruction of public services and education”.

She added: “It was a day to be proud to be part of an impressive show of strength and gave those of us who attended strength and encouragement in our efforts to fight back against the vile policies of this Coalition Government.”

Government ministers insist the cuts are necessary to sort out the country’s debts.
