A YOUNG boxer from a Bridgwater club is celebrating a national title win.

Sydenham's 14-year-old star Fabien Sulmina triumphed in the 2024 National Schools Championships in Newcastle on May 12.

Competing against current East Midlands champion, who is part of Cleethorpes Trinity boxing club, Fabien dominated in all three rounds, meaning he was crowned the national champion via a unanimous points decision.

After his victory, Fabien has been selected to represent England in the upcoming Tri-Nations tournament against Scotland and Wales in Nottingham.

His preparation for this tournament includes a training camp at Tamworth Boxing Club. Fabien has also been invited to attend the Champions Day at the GB Boxing Gym in Sheffield later this year.

Fellow Sydenham member Mileigh Addicott, 12, also showcased her fighting spirit in the championship, battling a previously unbeaten boxer from Bournemouth.

After a strong first round, Addicott ultimately fell to her Bournemouth opponent's cleaner shots in the subsequent rounds, but earned a silver medal.

On the achievements of Fabien and Mileigh, a spokesperson from the club said: "Everybody at the club is so proud of both Fabien and Mileigh for their efforts boxing on the biggest stage in amateur boxing."
