Alfie Ogborne led Bridgwater to a tense three wicket victory in a low scoring game at Potterne on Saturday.
He showed an impressive performance with an unbeaten 29, following up his 4-30 in the first innings.
Despite Potterne putting up a spirited struggle as they were runners up in 2023, it was Bridgwater that emerged victorious.
Alex Eckland, for the first time this season, won his toss allowing Potterne to take guard anticipating early assistance for the bowlers due to overcast conditions.
Gliding swiftly into action, Ogborne dismissed Wiltshire batsman Jake Goodwin, adeptly caught by James Regan at the second slip, on the third ball of the game.
An unfaltering spell from Ogborne and the exceptional Matt Burton resulted in Potterne ending up in a shaky position of 95 for 8.
Both Ogborne and Burton took four wickets each in 10 straight over spins.
The team caught numerous excellent catches behind the wicket from Eckland, Mike Coles, Regan and Charlie Sharland.
The game was interrupted for a quick tea after Potterne were dismissed for 123.
Post-tea, Bridgwater anticipated an outstanding new ball attack from Potterne, formed by Tahir Afridi and Chris Aubery.
Luke Pearson-Taylor answered with a few blows before being caught in the deep by Higton and the score resting at 20.
With the score at 46, Afridi managed to force Regan to inside edge onto his stumps marking the beginning of a fall of wickets with Bridgwater waning to 51 for 5 and 73 for 6.
This set the stage for Ogborne to join Sharland and inch their side's score higher in a highly competitive spell of West of England Premier League Cricket.
With Bridgwater on 93, Sharland was judged LBW leaving Potterne as slight favourites.
However, the experienced Dan Williams joined star player Ogborne ensuring no more damage was done, earning Bridgwater a crucial three wicket victory.
Ogborne with an unbeaten 29 turned the tide in Bridgwater favour.
Sponsors for the match were Dean Motors and TMB Patterns Ltd, and Bridgwater will host Wembdon at the Parks in the first round of the Somerset Major Cup on Wednesday evening, which starts at 6pm.
Next weekend, they will host Frocester at the club's Annual Sponsors and Charity Day which begins at 12pm.
Bridgwater's victory has given them a much-needed confidence boost ahead of these fixtures.
