Wembdon emerged victorious after a tough encounter with a newly-promoted but in-form Temple Cloud team.

The match-up, which took place at The Green, started with the visitors winning the toss and choosing to bowl first under overcast skies.

During the early stages of the match, Temple Cloud boasted an impressive bowling game, offering little opportunities to opposing team Wembdon.

However, the course of the match began to alter as the sun broke through, with Wembdon making a patient start to the innings.

Following a score of 11 in the 6th over, Everett was dismissed for 3.

The subsequent appearance of batter Puddy saw a spike in boundaries, as he scored 16, shortly followed by Anning's dismissal after securing 20 for Wembdon.

Just 15 overs in, and with a score of 50 for 3, the match appeared evenly poised.

A turning point occurred when De Zoysa and the Wembdon captain, Brockwell, took to the crease as part of a change in the bowling attack.

The pair built a crucial partnership, adding 137 for the 4th wicket over 18 overs, guiding Wembdon to a position of strength at 181.

Brockwell, despite accruing an impressive 80 from 65 deliveries, was taken down by the formidable Croker.

This significant moment led to Wembdon losing five wickets for merely 18 runs.

Despite this blow, the team held firm due to the resilient debutant Duncan Morrish, who, alongside Davies, added 33 invaluable runs for the final wicket, taking the team's score to 238 in 47 overs.

Bridgwater Mercury:

Following a defensive play in the second half of the day, Temple Cloud's aggressive approach crumbled under De Zoysa's bowling.

They stumbled, catching each other out at regular intervals.

In new entrant Morrish's first delivery, his skippy action trapped Curtis LBW, eventually causing the opposition to fall behind the tempo.

In a final attempt to recoup, a 36 run partnership for the 8th wicket, followed by a 26 run for the 9th, ultimately took Temple Cloud's score to 180 for 9.

However, it was not meant to be their day.

Davies spearheaded Temple Cloud's dismissal for 183, following notable catches by De Zoysa, leading to a triumphant day for Wembdon.

The victory has further cemented Wembdon's place at the top of the table after six games.

The undefeated team now faces an upcoming formidable test away to second place Bridgwater next Saturday.
