Wembdon 1st XI bounced back with a comprehensive victory over Shapwick & Polden.
After winning the toss, Wembdon opted to bowl first, a decision made as skies turned grey with a light drizzle.
The experienced opening pair from Shapwick, Hayman and Tinnion, were banking on their experience against an equally formidable bowling attack from Brockwell and Bingham.
Some early near-misses kept nerves on edge.
In the 9th over, Brockwell broke through, dismissing Hayman and leaving Shapwick at 29, and in his subsequent spell, he took out Tinnion.
Brockwell continued his successful run, taking three wickets in as many overs.
Shapwick was reduced to 35 for 3 from 13 overs.
Bingham finished his opening spell after seven overs and was replaced by De Zoysa.
Wembdon stayed firm, and with patience, kept the pressure on their rivals.
Habberfield, alongside Mason, steadied the match for Shapwick for a while as they added 28, until De Zoysa dismissed Mason.
Former professional Haggett upped the ante with some clean strikes.
However, after a drinks break, De Zoysa removed Habberfield, effectively silencing Shapwick's most dangerous threat.
As the match continued, Shapwick found themselves stuck at 150 for a bit, eventually, they were swept out in the 43rd over for the same score.
Wembdon's bowling, taking all factors considered, proved to be a successful decision.
After the tea break, Everett and Anning opened for Wembdon, having to face the skilled Hayman and Haggett.
Wembdon showed resilience, with Puddy providing a burst of energy by adding quick boundaries to the score.
However, he was dismissed with Wembdon sitting comfortable at 59 for 2.
After Anning was caught behind, the score stood at 64 for 4.
This could have been the turning point for the match, however, Love and skipper Brockwell held fort, adding a phenomenal 74 run partnership in just eight overs, which took Wembdon tantalisingly close to victory.
Love was then caught off Haggett, leaving just one run needed for the win.
In this critical moment, Trunks secured the win for Wembdon by taking a quick single off his first ball.
Wembdon registered a splendid four-wicket victory in the 27th over, with Brockwell securing an unbeaten 40.
Looking ahead, Wembdon will face North Petherton in their next match on Saturday, marking the end of the first half of the season.
They will then host Painswick of Gloucester in the national rounds of the Village Cup on Sunday.
