Bridgwater Women have announced the signing of a player with ‘huge potential’ ahead of the new season.

Jess Smith has signed a one-year contract with Bridgwater Utd Women.

The youngster, from Devon, is a player with ‘huge potential’ according to the club and has already shown ‘real maturity’ in Bridgwater's preseason.

The left footer, who has a prominent position as a central defensive midfielder, can also play on the left side in any attacking or defending position.

Smith has represented her county since under twelves and was a part of the Exeter City youth programme, before a move that saw her make her senior debut at Torquay Utd.

Before that, at youth level, Smith has won two county cups, been captain of her school team and went on to win the ISFA National Schools Cup, with a Chelsea Foundation Cup too.

Smith said: "I am so excited to be signed with Bridgwater at this time when the club is growing massively.

"From my first training session, I loved the atmosphere and the girls’ energy and desire to represent the club at the highest standard possible.”

She is aiming to progress and develop ‘all aspects’ of her game during her time at the club.

Smith added: "One of my aspirations and Bridgwater's aspirations is to push to the highest position in the league and drive towards promotion."

Technical Director of Bridgwater Utd Women, Steve Perkins said: "I'm delighted for Jess to sign for the season and is a player with lots of potential for the future.

"Jess has impressed in training and the fixtures she’s played in with her abilities in possession and also her bravery to compete against older and more experienced players.

"Jess’s versatility will be a big asset throughout the season and I look forward to supporting her in her development."
