Bridgwater United U18s progressed to the first round of the FA Youth Cup after a thrilling local derby against Yeovil Town.

The match, held at Fairfax Park, saw Bridgwater take the initiative early on, creating several opportunities.

Captain Preston Hopwood scored the opening goal with an assist from Theo Worth, putting Bridgwater 1-0 up.

Despite the home side's dominance, Yeovil Town managed to muster a few corners, with their winger posing the biggest threat, though Bridgwater's goalkeeper Charlie Hopkins was well-placed to make the save.

Showing great vision, Hopwood slid a measured pass to Finn Hansford, who calmly guided the ball from the edge of the area beyond the Yeovil keeper.

However, the visitors responded by making three straight substitutions, injecting fresh energy into their side.

This change proved fruitful as Yeovil snatched a breakaway goal.

Charlie Hopkins saved the first attempt, but the ball fell back to the same player, who made no mistake, bringing the score to 2-1.

The game was back on.

Lifted by the breakthrough, Yeovil pushed for the equaliser.

Bridgwater's defence was put under severe pressure, with a well-struck effort hitting the post and then another Yeovil player striking the crossbar from eight yards out.

In a tense period for Bridgwater, the introduction of Ronnie Johnson and Connor Cussans helped to inject some energy and renewed competence on the ball.

With the visitors continuing to push forward, Bridgwater almost sealed the game shortly after.

Hansford's excellent effort was met by a remarkable save from the visiting keeper, keeping the game alive.

As the match wore on, Bridgwater began to impose better pressure on the ball, with Alfie Cox being introduced to keep the Yeovil backline on its toes.

Cox's performance helped to run down the clock, and eventually, Bridgwater's more organised play in the closing stages secured their victory.

The match, which was played on a lovely surface thanks to a welcome break in the weather, was an exciting affair that kept everyone engaged.
