Pre-season friendly
Bridgwater Town 0, Bideford AFC 2
BRIDGWATER Town concluded their 2019/20 pre-season campaign with a 2-0 home defeat to Southern League Division 1 side Bideford on Tuesday night.
The hosts had plenty of the play in the opening 45 minutes at Fairfax Park, with Dave O'Hare seeing a shot blocked by Jack Taylor - his own team-mate - and Jamie Laird having a long-range effort parried by the goalkeeper.
But the only goal of the half came eight minutes into it, James Mayne heading in from a corner to put the visitors ahead.
Bideford then upped the ante after the break, even if there were few chances or moments of genuine quality to write home about.
Bridgwater were reliant on the counter-attack, but found themselves 2-0 down in the 85th minute as a cross from the right appeared to take a deflection on its way into the net.
Harry Horton had a shot tipped over, and Jake Brown headed off target from the resulting corner, but there was to be no late reward for the Robins.
Competitive action returns this coming Saturday, with Bridgwater going to Brislington for their opening league match (ko 3pm), and the following Tuesday they host Cribbs (7.45pm).
