Nailsea Utd 4, Middlezoy Rovers 2
MIDDLEZOY were on their travels on Saturday, as they headed to mid-table Nailsea United.
An extremely quick start from the home side saw them go 2-0 up inside the opening 10 minutes to leave Zoy stunned.
The first goal came as a free kick was delivered for the tall centre forward to outjump the static Zoy defence and head into the top corner from 15 yards out.
Nailsea’s second came soon afterwards as Zoy, sitting deep to try and defend the large slope, allowed the same centre forward to run at the back four and drill his effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Zoy eventually began to grow into the half as they settled into keeping possession.
On the half hour they were rewarded as a brilliant passing move finished with Adam Long expertly flicking the ball into the path of Dan Luce to finish into the bottom corner.
Zoy looked like they could turn a disastrous start around and go in level at half-time but a late Nailsea break resulted in a ball over the top not being dealt with and the centre forward completed his hat-trick, lobbing the ball over Greg Turner in goal.
Coming out for the second half with the slope in their favour, Zoy knew they needed an early goal if they were going to find a route back into the game.
With 10 minutes of the half gone they did pull a goal back as Dan Male bundled the ball home to restore hope for Zoy.
The visitors were now on the front foot as they went in search of an equaliser and chances fell to Charlie Lintell and Jamie Temlett as they cut into from their wings but neither could find the back of the net.
Zoy were then dealt a blow when a rare Nailsea attack saw Aaron Whaites pull his man down in the box.
The resulting penalty was saved by Turner but the rebound fell straight back at the feet of the Nailsea player for him to poke home.
This goal seemed to suck the life out of Zoy as the rest of the half was played out without the same intensity, leaving Nailsea to see out the rest of the game for a deserved victory.
Man of the match: Dan Luce
Zoy do the same journey this Saturday as they head to Nailsea & Tickenham.
