NORTH Petherton leapfrogged Bridgwater & Albion in the table, after they secured a convincing home win over basement outfit Newton Abbot at Beggars Brook, and Albion lost their second straight game at home to Keynsham.

Pethy have moved up into sixth place in the standings, with Bridgwater now two points behind them in seventh.

Petherton did not have it all their own way against Newton Abbot, though, only holding a slender 12-8 lead at half-time, with their tries coming from Jamie Adams and Damian Griffin.

The second half was one-way traffic, however, as Griffin scored his second before two tries for Lewis Allen helped Pethy pick up a bonus point.

Michael Stevens capped his 150th North Petherton appearance with a try, and Arron Gibbs also went over late on.

This coming Saturday sees Pethy at home once more, as Thornbury visit.

BRIDGWATER & Albion director of rugby Geoff Sluman admitted his side did not play well enough to deserve anything from their 27-0 defeat at home to Keynsham on Saturday.

Sluman said: “I don’t really think we played badly, we just didn’t play well enough to beat a determined Keynsham side.

“I think we were still suffering a bit of a hangover from the previous week’s bad result and we didn’t look like we quite got that out of our systems.

“The defensive effort from Keynsham was outstanding - one of the best we have seen this season.

“We didn’t help ourselves at times but things just never really clicked for us and our management of certain situations was not up to our usual standard.

“We know what we have to do to improve so it will be back to training and working on those things.”

Albion travel to face Lydney this Saturday.

FUNDRAISER: Bridgwater & Albion's ladies day

There was more success for Albion when it came to the club's ‘Ladies Day’ event, which coincided with Saturday’s match.

The 190 ladies who attended enjoyed a lunch and cabaret from ‘Drag with No Name’, followed by live guitar entertainment from Jason Chant.

The attendees then danced the night away with Paul from Rainbow Promotions.

The event, which was held in aid of Cancer Research, has raised £550 for the very worthwhile cause.
