THE year of 2022 brought many highlights in the world of sport and the same can be said for sports teams in the Bridgwater area.
To start, perhaps the most exciting day in sport for the town this year was the Bridgwater United Women's FA Cup tie against Manchester United.
The Red Devils were victorious in the match at Fairfax Park, but thousands of local football fans enjoyed the atmosphere on the day.
Bridgwater put in a good performance too in front of both the big crowd and some famous faces - in particular former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Elsewhere, the Bridgwater United Mens team won the Les Phillips Cup in 2022 after a solid 1-0 over Cadbury Heath.
Bridgwater Cricket Club also had a good season which culminated with them winning the 2022 Baker Cup which was played at Somerset CCC.
Also in cricket, North Petherton CC saved themselves from relegation on the final day of the season. hey were helped by a four wicket haul from Will Bere and four catches from wicketkeeper Owen Irish.
Bridgwater & Albion Rugby Club enjoyed a mixed season but they took the bragging rights over local rivals North Petherton, who they defeated twice last season.
This season though, North Petherton have turned that around with a big win back in October over Albion.
In hockey, Bridgwater Hockey Club's womens team won their league after a dominant season.
They were on form for the entire campaign and finished nine points clear at the top of the table.
