AT the weekend the first round of the Bill Brown Cup took place with teams from the Bridgwater Sunday League.

First up, Highburn Athletic defeated Puriton 4-1 in their match played at Pawlett Pavilion.

The away side were a man short for the last 20 minutes of the match after Josh Welham was sent off.

Elsewhere, Ramblers were beaten 3-6 by Spirit FC in what was another entertaining match filled with goals and hard challenges.

Both sides went back and forth creating chances and indeed scoring goals but the visitors were able to outscore and win the match.

Ian Bellinger scored twice in the game while Carl Jones, Joe Edgar, Darren Wickham and Josh Harvey rounded out the scoring.

There was also one league game at the weekend in which New Foresters First defeated Bridgwater Wolves Adults 6-5.

That match was 3-3 at half time so either side of the break there was plenty of action in front of goal but the hosts did just enough to hold on to get three points.
