Toolstation Western League: Bridgwater United 1-4 Falmouth Town

BRIDGWATER United were well beaten at home on Saturday (March 16) by a strong Falmouth Town side.

The match in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division ended 1-4 in favour of Falmouth.

Bridgwater named a strong line-up for the third versus fourth battle as did Falmouth Town and the 334 in attendance at Fairfax Park were treated to an entertaining battle.

Unfortunately for the bulk of those supporters, it was the visitors who had the better game and returned to Cornwall with three points.

Falmouth got off to the best start possible as they scored in the first minute of the match when Oscar Massey opened the scoring.

The Robins looked to pull the goal back in quick fashion and they very nearly did in the 7th minute when Jack Taylor forced a save from close range.

With just 10 minutes gone, a quality ball into the left channel provided Luke Barner with a half chance that he finished with aplomb to double the lead.

They did begin to create chances, the best being from a free kick hit by Jay Murray which was on target but saved well.

It was clear that the hosts were frustrated and this was rammed home when on 20 minutes, both Taylor and Sam Hedges were shown yellow cards.

There was a lull in the match from this point and the only thing to report before half time was another yellow card for Bridgwater, this time for Jake Llewellyn.

In the second period Bridgwater made two early substitutions and it appeared to give them an edge as they won a penalty in the 57th minute.

However Adam Wright stepped up to take it and saw his attempt saved well by the Falmouth keeper.

And then two minutes later Taylor saw his well placed shot find the back of the net before being ruled out for offside.

This frustrated the Robins further and Falmouth capitalised grabbing two goals in quick succession, one each for Jared Sims and Rubin Wilson.

Josiah McKayle did pull a goal back for Bridgwater right at the death but it was too little too late and Falmouth were deserved winners.

The result sees Falmouth move up to third place in the league table and Bridgwater drop to fourth.
