Bridgwater United bowed out of the FA Cup as they narrowly lost out to Devon side Bideford.

United travelled to North Devon with hopes on going on an FA Cup run but a second half from the hosts put them through.

The Robins came into this one on the back of two opening league wins, one of which was in North Devon at Ilfracombe.

It was Bideford who started stronger, forcing an early corner which was dealt with by the United defence and a minute later they were caught offside while on attack. On seven minutes, Bridgwater ‘keeper Matias Korsagen made a save to keep the score 0-0.

On 11 minutes, Bridgwater forced a corner which was tipped over the bar and Bridgwater were starting to look lively. On 18 minutes Freddy Haden had a shot blocked.

The visitors had a couple free kicks before Bideford went up the other end and Korsagen had to tip a shot over the bar. He also made a save from the resulting corner.

The sides went in level at the break, with both sides creating chances.

Noah Brown picked up a booking four minutes after the break and the Bridgwater United defence had to be strong to stop a couple of efforts from Bideford on 55 mnutes.

Bideford took the lead on 64 minutes, when Josh Webber scored. Four minutes later, Bridgwater United were down to 10 men when Charlie Perkins picked up a second yellow card following a melee in the middle of the park.

In stoppage time Preston Hopwood had a chance to salvage a draw but the ball went wide.

Bridgwater made three changes to try and change the game but ultimately they exited the FA Cup at the first hurdle.

Next up, United are back in Western League Premier action against Welton Rovers, who have lost their opening game 8-0 to Buckland Athletic, and crashed out of the FA Cup to Melksham Town.
