Alex Elwick has been the assistant professional at Enmore Park for over six months and thoroughly enjoys his time at the Club.
He began his golfing journey at Cheddington Golf Club, playing the 9-hole course with his dad, who was a scratch golfer.
"I joined the junior sections at Came Down, Sherborne and Yeovil golf clubs, and by the time I was 10, I had represented Dorset, which I carried on doing for the next eight years, as well as playing for the county's first team."
Alex then joined Lyme Regis as their assistant professional under the guidance of Club professional Duncan Driver.
"He taught me lots about the golf industry and was a very good friend to me as well, so Lyme Regis Golf Club will always have a special place in my heart. I then left there in 2023 to pursue a playing career, but lacked of sponsorship stunted that effort."
Alex was then approached by Harry Brown, the head assistant professional at Enmore, whom he had known for more than 10 years. Harry Brown told him that there was a vacancy at the Club.
"I snatched the opportunity and joined Enmore as an assistant professional in March 2024, and I've loved every bit of it. From the staff to the members, and I can't forget the course. It's been a really great year, and I'm extremely thankful.
Alex went on: "My boss, Barry Forster, is the golf club manager and runs the pro shop. He has helped me settle into the Club and will never hesitate to help me with anything. "
Looking ahead, Alex said, “I’m hoping to complete my PGA degree from the University of Birmingham by 2026. I will then become fully affiliated with the PGA. I can then start to help members and golfers achieve their dreams within the game. By the time I'm 30, I'd like to move to America, as I have dual nationality and would love to see a different side to the golf industry in another country."
The new assistant professional has settled into the Enmore family well and is a great asset to the Club, especially working with the members.
Meanwhile, Saturday's Pro Shop Stableford was won by Alexander Blackman with 38 points, one ahead of Bob Read with 37, while John Payne claimed third with 35.
Riza Terzi won the previous weekend's Stableford with 40 points, two ahead of Alex Eckland, with Adrian New claiming third place with 36.
