EMERALDS were expecting a tough game against the division’s leading team, Parkfield from Galmington, and they were not disappointed.

Injuries saw a very different team this week - Sandy Hocking and Emily Hoare were paired in the defence circle, and both players had a good game, forcing Parkfield to take the long shot.

The game was level throughout each quarter, with calm shooting from Lynne Cornish and good support from Alice Hocking. The centre court players worked hard during the final quarter, with Alex Williams making vital interceptions.

Kerry Clark had a good game at centre during the second half, linking well with Mikki Hole and the shooters. With the score edging in Parkfield’s favour, Emeralds had to dig deep to draw on all their reserves, to first level, and then pull ahead in the final five minutes.

Emeralds had a lead of two goals and a penalty shot as the whistle blew. Calm nerves ensured the goal was successful to take Emeralds to an impressive win 35 – 32.

The player of the match vote was split between Kerry Clark and Emily Hoare.
