Bridgwater Town Reserves manager Jason Bale described his team’s performance as an embarrassment after losing 2-7 to Cheddar on Saturday.

Cheddar took the lead within 30 seconds and by half time it was 4-0. While Bridgwater performed better in the second half, Bale told the Mercury that things had to change.

He said: “We were shocking and embarrassing.

“Cheddar were superb on the day, but bar two or three of our players the performance was just unacceptable.

“Too many people just had a bad day and we not up to the task.

“Within 30 seconds we were 1-0 down, and it was an uphill challenge from then.

“We were 4-0 down and half time so it was a relief to hear the whistle.”

During the break, Bale made a change in formation and Bridgwater came out stronger, but could not claw back on goals.

Luke Morgan scored first for Bridgwater, then set Max Cushing up for the team’s second – and last – goal of the match.

He said: “There was an improvement in the second half, but we were still second best.

“We played some good attacking football, and Luke Morgan was outstanding, but we defended poorly and gifted them an absolutely ridiculous own goal.

“Things have got to change.”

Bridgwater will face Shirehampton at home on Saturday.
