Bridgwater put in a good performance to draw against title contenders Shirehampton after last week’s heavy defeat.

The team scored minutes into the opening game, with Warren Ryan firing home following a corner. After 30 minutes, Lewis Irish curled the ball in following impressive teamwork. After half-time, Bridgwater missed a few chances.

However, Shirehampton fought back to equalise with goals within minutes of each other.

With only 10 minutes to go, Paul Goss was awarded a free-kick and scored. But Bridgwater missed yet more chances and five minutes later Shirehampton equalised again in what was an exciting and tense match.

Manager Jason Bale said: “It was quite pleasing to hear the whistle because we’ve conceded so many late goals. It was a superb performance.

“I think Shirehampton expected an easy win but it was one of our best games of the season.

“Last week’s performance was embarrassing but this week everyone played well.”

Bridgwater will be in the air on Saturday morning when they travel to Guernsey to play Vale Recreation in a Somerset Senior Cup tie.

Bale said: “We will be missing a few of the players we had on Saturday but if we play like we did against Shirehampton we have a good chance.

“I’m confident in the team as they are much improved on what they had been the last few months.

“We are going to Guernsey looking to win and, hopefully, it will be a good trip.”
