Somerset County Women’s 3rd Round League Cup match
BRIDGWATER Town Ladies beat their reserve team to secure a place in the semi-finals of the Somerset County Women’s League Cup.
Anneka Russ curled in an excellent opener after seven minutes, from the edge of the reserves’ area, before setting up Mandy Gornicki for the second ten minutes later – Russ’ driven corner was turned in at the near post by Gornicki.
The reserves had chances of their own. Kirsty James dragged a shot wide and Ashton Warren struck the bar on 30 minutes.
After the break, Farran Stewart was unlucky not to halve the deficit but her shot also struck the bar, before her rasping 20-yard drive was tipped over by first team keeper Jane Hill.
The firsts’ superior passing eventually took hold. Amy Ward found the net but was adjudged offside, and then Ward missed another chance from five yards.
Both sides thanked their friends, family members and supporters for making it a memorable occasion.
