North Petherton have talked of continuous improvement and building on from the previous weeks performance against Taunton.

The midweek training sessions continue to develop individual skills, fitness and team spirit with the evidence showing in the score and the appreciation from the supporters.

North Petherton entertained a good-sized crowd with arguably the best 40 minutes of rugby they've played this season.

On a day suited to open running rugby, the players didn't disappoint and got off to a dream start when improving back rower Toby Harris was on the end of crisp move by the backs to score in 52 seconds.

North Petherton immediately from the restart reinforced their superiority and forced Devonport Services back to the five yard line but lack of composure resulted in a knock on and the opportunity was lost.

Devonport worked their way in to North Petherton's half and not for the first time the home side gave away a series of penalties which resulted in three points for the visitors.

In the 17th and 18th minutes, North Petherton extended their lead by 12 points through a brace of tries from James Carter, one from a sublime inside ball by Lloyd Williams, who found Tom Williams at full tilt to release the backs and in the blink of the eye. North Petherton strolled over and Sam Williams converted.

North Petherton scored a try in the 23rd minute that matched the one they had scored against Burnham and the finishing was left to James Cox.

The home side worked the ball across on both sides of the pitch and made heavy inroads to Devonport's half with Harry Roberts showing his devastating turn of pace. The ball was shipped quickly and unselfishly to the right where Cox had a five-yard run in.

Matt Brown scored a typically forceful try on 37 minutes, which was converted by Roberts.

James Cox scored following Aaron Gibbs' 60-yard run, which Roberts converted, and ended North Petherton's scoring, Devonport continued to try and spread the play but robust tackling from Potter in the centres and Brown in the front row meant their scoring opportunities were limited.

Devonport scored in the 70th minute following a well-executed catch and drive.

The final whistle blew to large cheers from the crowd who were given a fine exhibition of fast, fluid rugby.
