Bridgwater Town Reserves travelled to Guernsey to play Vale Recreation on Saturday.

Bridgwater took control of the game in the first half hour, passing the ball well, but wasting several golden opportunities. Thirty-five minutes in, a Bridgwater player pulled the shirt of a Vale player in the box and the referee gave a penalty – which Vale scored.

Bridgwater started the second half brightly, creating opportunities – but again failing to score – with the ball either striking the woodwork or a defender.

With one minute remaining, Vale got a second.

Manager Jason Bale said: “It was a long journey over there. The pitch wasn’t the best but as we had travelled so far we decided to give it a go.

“The players worked hard and gave it everything they had. But unfortunately, it wasn’t enough on the day.

“We had a really good weekend and we were well looked after over there by Vale – the hospitality was superb and we thank them for that.

“It’s a shame about the result, but it was a cracking weekend.”

Bridgwater will play Mangotsfield at home this weekend.

Bale said: “Mangotsfield are doing reasonably well. Overall we are playing well but need to pick up some points and score when chances are created.”
