TOP of the league Taunton Vale started well and pressurised Bridgwater’s defence of Matt Upham, Scott Upham, Gower and Trunks.

However, a quick Bridgwater breakaway saw Tom Lott pick up the ball and deftly flick the ball over the Vale keeper for an outstanding goal.

Vale kept coming forward and the midfield of James, Jenkins and Dart worked hard to contain Vale.

Left wingback Gower showed great distance and precision from his flicks upfield that Vale found hard to pick up.

Vale eventually equalized in controversial fashion after a cross was deflected past keeper Saunders.

Just before half time Vale picked up their second goal from a short corner that was converted. Then Bridgwater lost Tom Lott to an ankle injury.

In the second half Bridgwater worked hard and played some good bright hockey. Forwards Andy Taylor, Liam Hedaux and Joe Sibley pressured the defence but Vale kept most of the ball.

Vale’s third came from a cross/shot that hit Scott Upham on the leg and deflected in and despite protest about the height of the ball, the goal stood.

A rare break forward saw Taylor pick up a goal for Bridgwater.

Late on Vale had two men carded, but Bridgwater just couldn’t find an equalizer. A very disappointing result that could have easily been a win or draw.

Joint men of the Match Richard Gower and Scott Upham.
