THE Taunton Volkswagen Saturday Football League saw plenty of action on Saturday in the Somerset Intermediate Cup Quarter Final.

With a TDSFL team in every one of the four games, the league came close to having all four spots in the semi-final, but Hamilton Hawks failed to win their game – not for the lack of attempts on goal.

Playing at home against Cutters Friday they totally dominated proceedings, but Cutters had a man between the sticks that was on fire and he saved everything that was thrown at him in some style.

It was just going to be one of those days and with no score after 90 minutes, extra time came into play and on one of Cutters rare ventures into Hawks' penalty area they were awarded a penalty which they converted for the 1v0 win.

North Petherton travelled to Westend from Weston and came away 3v1 victors with goals from Mark Mantyk, Ben Howell and Tom Wadham.

In round two of the Seward Cup, New boys Gallery from Division Five took on mid table Division Three side and local rivals Sydenham Rangers and with striker Jack Taylor on fire scoring four goals, they got a 4v2 win, Tom Grimmett and Jason Stephenson scored for Rangers.

Mark Willis put Staplegrove Colts in front against higher division opponents Wembdon Saints but it didn't last as Saints came back strong and won the game 6v1, John Doyle hit a hat trick, Jason Hitchcock added two and Jake Collard one.

Norton Fitzwarren and Bridgwater Sports Colts couldn't settle it after two hours of football with the score at 1v1 Lee Kirkpatrick and Gary Howes scoring so it went to the dreaded penalties, which Sports won 3v1.

Lee Dodden, Craig Savage and Gary Howes again scoring for Sports, only Dominic Cavill managed to net for Norton.

League superiority showed in Redgate's 5v2 victory over Alcombe Rovers Reserves, Sam Granville scored two, Jack Evett, Gary Flack and Aaron Tate all added one each, while Keiron Bailey and Paul Matcham replied for Rovers.

It was a closer affair between Division Three’s Highbridge Town Reserves who beat Division Four Exmoor 3v2.

Both Rangers goals scored by Jimmy Baker, Craig Griffiths, Scott Woodberry and Ben King all netted for Highbridge.

The all-Division Four encounter between Rhode Lane Wanderers and Nether Stowey Reserves was won by the former 5v1.

Kieran Dean netted for Stowey, Ben Patrick got two, Matt Patrick, Craig Patrick and Josh Bake one each.

In the local derby at Westonzoyland, their Reserves beat neighbours Middlezoy Rovers Reserves 3v2 thanks to goals from Liam Tomlinson, Gary Ziabeck and Chris Reed. Dan Russell and Aaron James replied for Rovers.

In Division One, Paul Organ scored early to take the lead against Bishops Lydeard but spawned other chances before Joe Chamberlain hit a peach of a 30-yard shot to get a point for his side.

It was the same at Priorswood where Middlezoy Rovers' Craig Robinson shook the Locomotives crossbar and Callum Laird missed a sitter from two yards to leave the game goalless.

Dulverton Town had a 3v1 victory over Cannington Colts for whom Paul Irvine scored, while Lee Hooper, Ross Cornish and Adrian Smith all scored for Town.

It was second versus third at Porlock where they entertained Predators and a close encounter was predicted and achieved with the home side winning 3v2 thanks to two goals from Adam Langdon and one from James Tapp.

Ryan Weston got both Predators goals and that win takes Porlock back to the top of the table.

The only Division Two game was won by Westonzoyland, who beat Appletree 2v0 with goals from Carl Tucker and Andrew Evans.

Chris Singleton gave Wembdon the lead in Division Three with a well judged lob over Stogursey's keeper.

They should have doubled their lead when they had a penalty but missed the opportunity but Joe Cresswell did get a goal for them to go 2v0 up before Charlie Sturdy got one back for the away side.

Williton were supposed to be entertaining Porlock Reserves but the latter were unable to raise a side and have been penalised three points as per League rules.

And in Division Five, Tone Youth completed their first campaign with a 6v0 win over Bridgwater Grasshoppers sharing the goals amongst the team.

Sam Morse, Callum Hardy, Jake Odey, Rob Fielding, Tom Kellock and Rhys Allen all scoring one each.
