Bridgwater Town fell to their fourth consecutive defeat and were again goalless when losing at Hungerford on Saturday, writes Eddie Robinson.

Town were definitely second best in the other defeats but this was different - here they certainly deserved at least a draw.

Bridgwater again rang the changes in both personnel and positioning.

The passing, which had been the biggest weakness in those recent defeats, was much improved.

Bridgwater had the game’s first chance on seven minutes. Brimson, showing good control, burst through the heart of the defence and lobbed the on rushing keeper. Unfortunately his effort just cleared the bar above a gaping goal.

Hungerford replied when Wood couldn’t keep out a cross and Durrant headed away off the line.

But this was an improved showing from Bridgwater. With Piper forcing a corner when played in by Robertson, Hungerford took the lead on 20 minutes. Peek, who otherwise had a good game, didn’t deal with a bouncing ball, allowing Johnson to gain possession. The striker cut back inside and thumped his shot past Wood.

Bridgwater responded when Brimson set up Piper, whose shot was well saved.

On 32 minutes, Brand showed good skill in beating Nunn but his shot screwed wide.

Bridgwater ended the half with an excellent move, involving Robertson, Brimson, Thomas and Piper, which just lacked the final shot to bring the equaliser.

Playing down the slope, Hungerford expected to dominate but this never happened.

Lyons, Robertson and Thomas, controlled the midfield. Thomas in particular catching the eye with his close control and he was unlucky to have two shots blocked and other passes just failing to send a teammate clear.

Piper joined the support offered by Young and the pair nearly broke through on a couple of occasions.

From a rare Hungerford corner, Wood got down brilliantly to palm away Wallace’s close range header.

In the closing minutes, Bridgwater were pressing for an equaliser, but were unable to Bring keeper Henly into serious action.

In a competitive game Hungerford were lucky to reach the 85th minute before collecting their first booking when Durrant was clattered by Crockford.

In stoppage time, with Peek now helping the forwards, the referee missed a blatant block on Piper. The loose ball was pumped forward and Johnson slipped the ball past Wood to give a lopsided look to the score line.
