TEMPERS flared during Bridgwater Town Reserves' clash with Winscombe on Saturday - but the home side kept their heads to deservedly grab all three points.

Jason Bale's men fell behind on eight minutes following a dubious penalty decision against the run of play. Defender Tyne Govier appeared to collide on the edge of the penalty area, but the referee adjudged Govier infringed the forward inside the area and the striker despatched the penalty.

But the scores were level after 20 minutes thanks to Ian Bellinger. Rob Snook started a good move down the left hand side and played in Bellinger, who beat defender and superbly struck the ball past the goalkeeper from inside the box.

Bridgwater took the lead five minutes later. A good passing move found Luke Morgan from 20 yards out, who produced a breathtaking finish from 20-yards out.

The home side took the lead into the break but the game took a turn for the worse just minutes after the restart.

A Winscombe player appeared to kick out at Tyne Govier while he was on the floor, prompting ugly scenes, and the game fell into scrappy territory, with either side capable of scoring a goal.

But Bridgwater kept to their game plan and sealed the win with five minutes to go. A persistent Connor Watts, making his first appearance since returning to the side from Taunton Town, won the ball in Winscombe's half and played in Adam Kinsey for Bridgwater's third.

Bridgwater Town Reserves manager Jason Bale said his side's performance was “cracking”.

He said: “It was a deserved win and they had a couple of chances following their penalty, but we kept to our game plan and created superb opportunities.

“We just need to take this win into Tuesday's game with Castle Cary, because it means nothing if we don't produce a food performance.”

Bridgwater Town Reserves are at home to Castle Cary on Tuesday. Kick off 7.45pm.
