Bridgwater Town boss Rob Dray could not fault his side's performance despite slipping to a 2-0 defeat away to Hungerford Town on Saturday.

The visitors dictated most of the play and were unlucky not to come away with at least a point.

Dray told the Mercury he was really pleased with the way his side played and said Town were the better side for 70 minutes of the game.

He said: “Hungerford will be in the play-offs at the end of the season, they have a big budget but we were massively the better side and we battered them for 70 minutes.

“The gaffer said at the end of the game that we didn't deserve that - we had 75% of possession and territory.”

March has proved to be a testing month for Bridgwater Town so far. They have lost all three fixtures and not scored a single goal, but Dray believes his side has turned a corner despite the defeat.

He added: “None of my sides have been toothless but we showed some great passion and hard work on Saturday, and if you do that you are half way there.

“The players here have a winning mentality and they were disappointed following the defeat but I cannot be negative because they have been chucked together and are finding their feet.

“Lyons, Thomas and Brimson were absolutely fantastic technically and Piper, who we signed from Taunton Town, is our own Dirk Kuyt - I've never seen someone run around so much and let others play.”

Dray said he expects to pick from a full squad for the first time this season for the visit of Stourport Swifts to Fairfax Park on Saturday, and compared the return of club captain Chris Young from injury as “like a new signing”.

He said: “He is our talisman, he is our Steven Gerrard and Alan Shearer rolled into one. I cannot say enough good things about him and it's a shame we haven't had him for the whole season as he would have 20 more goals.

“He is a goal scorer, it's as simple as that.”
