MERCURY made a flying start taking the opposition by surprise but Garnets found their feet and fought back to within one by quarter-time.
Garnets made a few changes to their team which worked and Mercury had a real fight on their hands.
Leading 17-15 at half-time, Mercury decided to make a few changes. The battle continued with both teams working hard for every goal.
Despite outstanding blocking from Emma Reynolds and accurate shooting from Karis Holleran and Lily Rowland, Mercury trailed 26-28 at three-quarter-time.
Morgan Middleton and Kat Jay fought tirelessly to stop Garnets from scoring and turned over balls to give Mercury the advantage.
In the last minute, Garnets had an injury and the player was replaced. All Mercury had to do was keep possession and wait for the final whistle, which they did to win 34-33.
