Bridgwater and Albion’s thrilling win over Barnstaple on Saturday may have been exciting for the fans at Bath Road, but not everybody was grateful for the drama.

Sam Osborne’s last-gasp try won the day for Bridgwater, but coach Nick Hill said his side could have won far more comfortably but for several mistakes.

He told the Mercury: “It was an exciting game because we allowed it to be exciting. Barnstaple capitalised on our mistakes.

“No disrespect to them, they are staving off relegation and they are going to fight tooth and nail but they did not really create anything.”

Osborne’s last-minute try was converted by Will Topps, with his last kick for Bridgwater before heading off to New Zealand to continue his rugby career.

Hill said: “Will has been very good for us. He is probably the best full-back signing we have made in the last two seasons.

“He has been a mainstay of the side; hopefully he will come back to us next season a better player.”

Hill said he would be happy with two victories from Albion’s remaining three fixtures, starting with Newton Abbot at home on Saturday.

Hill said: “We lost down at Newton Abbot earlier this season so we’ll be looking to put that right.

“If we can get two wins that would be a good end to the season.”
