Bridgwater Town’s Jekyll and Hyde season continued with Saturday’s 5-0 home humbling defeat on the back of a battling draw in the midweek local derby.

After earning a hard-fought 0-0 draw with rivals Taunton Town last Tuesday night, Bridgwater failed to turn up at the Fairfax four days later against Yate Town.

Boss Rob Dray was left fuming by his side’s inconsistency and admitted there were “no excuses” after Saturday’s lacklustre performance.

He said: “We could use excuses like losing one of our most experienced players Andy Robertson to injury for the rest of the season or that two centre-backs were injured during the warm up.

“But at the end of the day all the players can run, head, kick and tackle, and none of them did that.

“It was a case of ‘after the Lord Mayor’s show’ because everyone put in a lot of mental and physical work on Tuesday but it could not have been more opposite on Saturday.

“But people have to realise we are very much work in progress; we have been together a very short amount of time and have limited resources.

“On Tuesday we were good and you don’t become a bad side after one bad result and we have to remain positive.”

Dray admitted Tuesday’s match wasn’t one for the football purist but was impressed with the way his players applied themselves against a team ten places above them in the league.

However he says sometimes he isn’t sure which side will turn up such has been Bridgwater’s inconsistency this season.

Town travel to North Leigh tomorrow night (Tuesday) where they will be looking to bounce back, and Dray hopes to have some players back from injury.
