Bridgwater Town recorded their best away score of the season as they emphatically defeated Andover leaving the home side looking certainties for relegation.

At the start of the season many predicted Bridgwater would be looking likely candidates for that position but the green shoots of spring are emerging as is Bridgwater’s young team.

Bridgwater took the lead on 23 minutes when a resurgent Graham Mercieca set up Lewis Irish to fire home.

Carl Jones came close to making it two but his shot flew just wide.

Town did double their lead on 36 minutes as Josh Turner powered home his header from a free kick.

Just before half time with Bridgwater giving the home defence all sorts of problems Graham Mercieca scored though a crowd of legs following another free kick.

At the start of the second half Andover made two substitutions and immediately looked an improved side. Surely there was to be no repeat of the disappointing turnaround that happened at North Leigh.

Even though Andover had more possession than in the first half their forwards wasted several chances and found Stuart Wood in Town’s goal in fine form as he produced several first class saves.

Matt Townley sealed a great afternoon for Bridgwater as he fired home a superb free kick giving Town a 4-0 victory.

The only downside for Town was the sending off of Carl Jones for a second yellow card.
