Bridgwater Town Reserves were left to rue a dire team performance as they went down 4-2 to Langford Rovers on Saturday.

The hosts went 3-0 down inside the first 15 minutes and never really recovered and the defeat leaves them fifth from bottom in the Somerset County Premier Division.

Five minutes in Town went 1-0 down despite starting brightly but were caught on the counter attack, and they found themselves two down a few minutes later.

When the third came – all three goals coming from Town’s defensive errors – it looked all over but manager Jason Bale changed his side’s shape, going with a three-man defence to take the game to their opponents.

Bridgwater managed to create a few more chances and pulled a goal back five minutes before half time when Ian Bellinger swung in a corner which was met by Carl Tucker who rose above everyone to head home.

They then had a chance to make it 3-2 shortly after but Luke Morgan’s header went inches wide.

Bale took his troops in at half time to talk about what went wrong in the first 45 minutes and urged his players to try and turn the game around to get something from it.

Bridgwater didn’t start the second period well but still managed to claw back another goal when Morgan this time managed to head the ball into the back of the net from a good cross.

Town then lost Gary Berry to injury which forced them to reshuffle and with 25 minutes to go, having made all their substitutions, Bridgwater lost another man to injury and were forced to play with ten men.

Tyne Govier was then brought down in the box in what looked like a clear penalty to everyone but the referee and it proved the turning point.

Just two minutes later Langford broke clear down the other end to make it 4-2 and put the game beyond Town.

Town Reserves face an away trip to Brislington on Saturday before welcoming the same opponents the following Saturday.

Bale said: “We had hoped to get something out of the game and we really needed the points but it was just an absolutely terrible performance in all aspects.

“We have to bounce back because we are just above the relegation zone with four games left, which are all against the bottom teams, so we have to go out there and beat them.”
