LET'S talk about how wonderful the new Bridgwater, Burnham and Highbridge constituency (and surrounds) is!

I have been using my campaigning to also shine a light on the wonderful area: Bridgwater, Burnham and Highbridge, North Petherton (and surrounding beautiful villages).

Because there’s plenty to shout about!

From glorious golden beaches and award-winning tourism, to bustling market towns and a fervent arts scene, our local area has it all.

At seven miles long, Brean Beach is one of the longest sandy paradises in Europe. Coupled with spectacular headland and the picturesque downs, it is a stunning oasis for its many holiday seekers and, of course, those of us that are privileged to witness it all year round. At nearby Warren Farm Holiday Centre, Brean boasts the UK’s AA Holiday Centre of the Year.

Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge are welcome new additions to the Bridgwater constituency, adding character and a striking Victorian vibe to the region. Burnham’s Princess Theatre and Arts Centre offers superb entertainment; you can dive back in history, let laughter loose at a comedy show, or watch an incredible performance – all on your doorstep!

Bridgwater. Our beloved home of carnival! What talent we have in our popular market town. To be a judge at this year’s carnival is a memory that will last a lifetime. Rich with history and an entrepreneurial spirit, Bridgwater is an unheralded gem.

Cannington is the gateway to the jewel of Somerset – Exmoor! And boasts a quaint, charming setting itself, summed up most aptly by the name of one of its pubs: The Friendly Spirit Inn.

Once the largest village in England (now a town), North Petherton dates all the way back to the Saxon era and is a history buff’s haven!

You see, our area is incredible.

These are exciting times for the new Bridgwater constituency. The subject of £4 billion investment at the Gravity site near Puriton, Bridgwater has the opportunity to become a world leader in renewable energy solutions.

But this won’t just happen by itself. We need an MP who will champion our area and unlock the talent of us all to make our treasured community the place we know it can be.

Together, we can make Bridgwater, Burnham and Highbridge a region we can all be proud to live and work.

Claire Sully is the Liberal Democrats' candidate for the new Bridgwater constituency at the 2024 general election.

She is standing against Pele Barnes (Independent), William Fagg (Reform UK), Ashley Fox (Conservatives), Charles Graham (Green Party), Leigh Redman (Labour) and Gregory Tanner (Workers Party).
